Conventions Of A Music Video

Rock video Analysis (Foo Fighters-The Pretenders)

Another main point within this video are the contrast between the band and the police, as the police are the authority as are naturally seen as the good people, however in this the audience feel different because we saw the band first and also the audience are familiar with the band and are instantly behind the band, the audience are therefore seen as rebellious which suits the tone and mood of the song.

pop video Analysis (Carly Rae Jepsen-Call Me Maybe)

Location

There are 3 main location in this video, the first is of the back garden and window where the girl is watching the man cut the grass, the second main location is on the front lawn where the girl is cleaning her car whilst the man is fixing his car in the front lawn next door to her, the last main location in the garage where most of the signing of the band is located, there is a sub location in her daydream where she is passed out form falling off the car where she and the man are together with a lighthouse and the sea in the background.

Clothes/probs

The girl in the video wears very casual clothes which young people would wear, the man wears a vest top and jeans which was used by the makers to help make the man seem more attractive  as that is the reason the girl is singing about him. There are no specific probs used, the main on's used are band equipment such as guitar and drums, there are other objects such as a lawn mower  or  car where also used in the video.

Cinematography/Effects

There are many long shots of the girl or the man in the distance from the other which was done by the makers  to help show the space between each other and that the man is taking no notice of the girl. There are also close ups of the girl singing and of the band , in the shots of her singing with the band the shot has been focus pulled onto her to blur the garage and band in the background, this is yo make her stand out from the rest of the surroundings. There are only two effects used, there is one when she falls off her car and bangs her head on the floor and then a ripple/fade is used to indicate to the audience that she has passed out from the knock, The second effect is a slight slow motion effect when the man is cutting the grass and taking his shirt off.

Narrative/Continuity

The girl is trying to get the boy’s attention who is cutting the grass and fixing the car, she does this by trying to clean the car erotically and then signs a song to him. There is a mix of continuity and montage footage as there is a criss cross between the storyline of the girl watching the man and cleaning the car being crossed with the scenes of the band playing in the garage then t the end they both meet up and match.

In The Sun - Remake

What did  I do when filming that helped edit?

  •  When filming a shot it is important to go through the whole scene and not just that clip as when it comes to edit it is better to have more footage then less so that you can make changes if some clips do not fit together.
  • With each scene in its location we filmed the clips in chronological  order so when choosing the clips to add when editing it made the footage easier to find and put in order.
  • When it came to lip syncing and timing for the dance moves ,we played the music when filming, this helped the actors/performers to stay in time with the song and make the lip syncing more realistic.
  • We used multiple types of equipment like a tripod or fig-rig which helped to make a steady adn well presented shot's, also we used a chair with wheels on it which became handy for doing tracks as they where more fluid then on foot.

What made editing harder due to filming technics?

  • Although we tried to film a bit extra each time we started to fall behind and take to long between each shot so we started to make them shorter to try and get all the clips in before we ran out of time.
  • As the day progressed on we started to become less organised and started to become less detailed in our shots and even missed out a couple, when editing this made it hard to fill in some gaps with repeats of others or having to make some clips longer.
  • I don't think anyone fully learned the clips they where filming or directing so when it came to film there was slight confusing on what shot it was whereas we should already know this.
  • Some shot's became out of frame during the shot was being filmed, this was due to tracking and the camera became hard to keep still or that our space for the performers to work in was to small so they slightly went out of frame to get this room.
WWW &  EBI
  • WWW- we created a good plan before hand that helped to sort out who was filming and directing what clip's so when it came to the day we knew who was doing what. EBI- However when the actually day came to film the plan soon became out of place and certain people didn't know what clips they where directing.
  • EBI- Time planning was a massive concern as we had to do an extra day to film because we ran out of time, this reduced our editing time.
  • WWW- Almost everyone found the editing rather easy and finished on the day we started even thou we had less time then we was originally supposed to have.
